A subset of stimming (short for self-stimulating, an umbrella term for a number of repetitive behaviours done to manage strong senses and/or emotions), fidgeting became popular a long, long time ago (in 2016) with the popularization of both fidget spinners and the cubes with the same name.
But fidgeting isn't limited to objects; playing with your own hands, rustling your feet, and rocking in your chair are just some examples of what can be considered fidgeting!
